Kampfgruppe Haase: Origins and History
Click on the picture to read more about Sylvester Haase, the unit's founder.

Kampfgruppe Norden was formed in 1982 as Lehr Kampfgruppe Norden, an infantry section of Ontario-based reenactors. Originally formed around a core of reenactors portraying the Waffen-SS Wiking Division, and named: Kampfgruppe Norden.

The group at the time, was commanded by Grenadier Sylvester Haase, a German veteran of the Second World War, and much of the group's training, influence, direction and accuracy can be attributed to Herrn Haase.

With the untimely passing of Grenadier Haase on February 14, 2003, the Unterführern and Männschaften of Kampfgruppe Norden voted unanimously to honour the memory of Grenadier Haase by renaming the group, Kampfgruppe Haase.

2. Kompanie/ 1. SS Panzer Division; 2.Kp., 25.Pz Gren Rgt./ 12.SS Panzer Divison

We portray the men of the Waffen-SS (Literally, 'Armed SS', not to be confused with the Allgemeine-SS nor the SS groups whom ran the Konzentrazionslager or Concentration Camps during the Third Reich), during the later part of World War 2 (1944-1945).

More specifically, we portray armoured infantry of the Waffen-SS from the SS Panzer division 1. and SS Panzer Division 12.

This Waffen-SS Divisional impression was chosen because of the impressive combat record achieved during the Second World War on all fronts. The Waffen-SS combat units fought with distinction on all fronts and took part in all major campaigns as 'fire-fighters' when weaknesses in the front or combat sectors needed to be secured.

Panzergrenadier Regiment 2./Panzerdivision 2.

We portray the men of Panzergrenadier Regiments 2./Panzerdivision 2. (5.Ko./Pz.Gren.Rgt.
2/2.Pz.Div.)
of the German Army (Heer) during the latter part of World War 2 (1942-1945). We draw our numbers from the Montreal/Ottawa/Kingston area.

Panzer 2. was one of the original Wehrmacht Divisions, originally commanded by Heinz Guerdian, father of 'Blitzkrieg' tactics. Battle history included the invasion of Poland, France, Blakans, Russia and the Battle of the Bulge. Our Gruppe utilizes the grass-green shoulder straps denoting Panzergrenadiers

Luftwaffe Ground Forces

Luftwaffe Ground Forces consists primarily of two units: 3rd Kompanie Fallschirmjäger Regiment 4 and Luftwaffe Field Division 16.

The 4th Fallschirmjäger Regiment was formed in the summer of 1942 and distinguished itself on the Eastern front before being moved to Sicily and Italy to counter the Allied invasion of “the soft underbelly of Europe”. The regiment laid down its arms in Italy, 2 May 1945.

Luftwaffe Field Division 16 was formed in December of 1942 and was stationed in Holland until the Allied invasion of Normandy. It became heavily engaged against the Canadians and British during the battle of Caen where division was very nearly wiped out. It would eventually be reformed in the October before being committed to the 1945 German counter-offensive “Nordwind”. It surrendered to the Allies in Bavaria.
