Kampfgruppe Haase: Our HIstory
The background on our reenactment group:

Celebrating 29 Years of Second World War Reenacting!
We are a Canadian-based group of military historians, enthusiasts and re-enactors with the purpose of bringing history out of books and into life, since 1977, in a dynamic, refreshing and interesting way.

We portray the Landser of various Axis Forces during the later part of World War 2 (1944-1945). More specifically, our Kampfgruppe includes members of three sections of the German Armed Forces, including Heer (German Army) and Waffen-SS (Armed Military SS Units). Additionally, Kampfgruppe Haase is also home to the 33rd Panzeraufklärunugsbattalion, an amoured car platoon.

We have members across Ontario and Quebec, and have friends (Kameraden) in US based groups who make the journey North to participate with us in public events. Events we participate in include public and private school events, museums, air shows, movies and TV documentaries. Typically, at these events we display our uniforms, weapons, and equipment, answer questions from the public, and also conduct tactical battle simulations with Allied reenactors.

Our goal is to accurately represent what life was like for the ordinary soldier (Landser) of the Wehrmacht (Armed Forces) during the closing years of the Second World War. In doing so, we hope to educate ourselves and the public: honouring the men who served in the German Armed Forces, and those who fought against them.

Our aim is not to glorify war or the Nazi regime or its ideology. Instead, we seek to restore the image of the men who were too often depicted by allied propaganda and Hollywood movies as ruthless 'Nazis' when in fact, a lot of them were simply ordinary citizens trying to fulfill their obligation to serve their country in the military in very troubled and difficult times. World War 2 was a tragic human event of catastrophic proportions.

It is estimated that more than 50 million people were killed during this struggle and through it all, as in any war, soldiers on all sides fought for their friends, their families, their homes and their countries. They all deserve the honour of our remembrance.
